Sønderborg Castle
Sønderborg Castle was founded as a castle in the first half of the 1200th century. Now the Castle functions as a museum with local history collections from the Middle Ages to the present day. The focus is mostly on the Schleswig wars 1848-1850 and 1864. The museum also shows exhibitions on seafaring, textiles, crafts and a small art collection with works by prominent Southern Jutland painters through the ages.

Gråsten Castle
Throughout her life in Denmark, Queen Ingrid enjoyed gathering her family around her at Graasten Castle. In 1935, she was married to the later Frederik IX, and they were given the castle as a summer residence. There have been several castles on the site since the 9th century. The current castle is the third in the row and dates from 1500. Today, the castle is made available to Queen Margrethe.
