Gråsten Castle

Graasten Castle and castle gardens with the "Royal Kitchen Garden" are beautifully surrounded by the southern Jutland nature with forest and lake.

In 1935, the palace became the summer residence of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid. The palace is still used by the royal family as a summer palace today.

The history of Graasten Castle dates back to the 1500th century. The current castle was built around 1700. The richly decorated castle church still exists from that time. The rest of the castle burned down in 1759 and was subsequently rebuilt to its current appearance.

The castle's history can be divided into three eras, the first of which is linked to the Count Ahlefeldt family, the middle to the Dukes of Augustenborg and the latest to the Royal House.

Tractor Museum in Pøl

Munkegård Tractor Museum is housed in a disused agricultural property. In 1971, Karen Luise and Jes Peter Skovgaard Petersen bought the farm from Jes Peter's parents - Lisbeth and Thorvald Skovgaard Petersen.

At this time, Jes had a hatching egg production with 5.000 hens. This was expanded to 80 dairy cows. This continued until 2004, when the last cows were sold and in 2007 egg production stopped.

Jes Peter has had a great interest in vintage tractors over the years. After the closure of production on the farm, it was now time to realize his dream of collecting vintage tractors.

Stables and a chicken coop were prepared for a tractor exhibition. More tractors were purchased and gradually the idea of opening a museum arose.

The Deer Jumping Boat

Where is it from? When is it from? When was it found and by whom?

Also tell us about our approach to building a credible replica / reconstruction of the Hjortspringbåden, as good as a collection of technically capable people can do it. We are not trained in woodworking. We have no one trained in the sciences of history or archaeology; we consider ourselves to be working with experimental archaeology.

The knowledge on which we have built the replica of the Hjortspringbåden has been collected in the period from 1991 to 2003 from the sources available at that time, both written and personal, through our contacts with researchers from various universities and museums. Where this knowledge has not been sufficient, we have "filled in the gaps" ourselves.

Augustenborg Castle

Augustenborg Castle is one of the most beautiful baroque castles in Denmark.
In the park you can see the remains of the same linden tree, which provided shade for HCAndersen when he visited the castle in his time. Maybe this is where he got inspired for the fairy tale about "The little girl with the matchsticks".

For more than 75 years, parts of the Castle have functioned as a psychiatric hospital, the psychiatry has subsequently been gathered in Aabenraa and the castle now houses the Danish Agency for Agriculture, which is why there is no public access.

The Mini Museum at the bell tower gives you an insight into the history of the Duke family.
