The story of the guards

From 1681, larger cities in Denmark got the first cod liver oil lamps in the streets and by royal decree in 1683 on "Street lights and night guards", the guard institution was made obligatory in all the country's market towns.

Actual security guards' guilds were set up with special rules for the day and night work of the street guards. The guarding of the guards was hard and later the morning star. During the day, the guards were both town hall officers, engravers and often bailiffs. It was no considered position to be a weightlifter!

A regular proclamation of "time" was introduced every hour in the evening at the signal of the tower guards, who stood up in the church towers and kept an eye on the fires in the city.

In the summer period 2024, there will again be guard trips (update with times will follow soon). The tours always start at Vägterpladsen at 21.00:XNUMX.
