Enjoy the beautiful Nordals countryside.

The place for nature lovers

Several nature resorts have been established in the Nordborg area in the last ten years.

Oldenor and Mjels Sø (lake) are two fine examples of how the countryside has been restored to its original state.

There is a delightful path along the southern side of the lake, from which one can enjoy the fine views and abundant bird life. The path connects up with car parks at Dyvig and on the road between Mjels and Oksbøl, and links with a path to Nordborg.

At the car park on the Mjels - Oksbøl road there is a fine picnic area on a hillside overlooking the lake, with benches and tables and a glorious view.

Mjels lake restored after 155 years

During the autumn of 2005 and spring of 2006, 45 hectares of agricultural land were transformed into a lake.

In 2005, the area was covered by drained and dewatered fields. Mjels lake, located to the south of Nordborg, has now been restored as a deep, narrow freshwater lake that provides a habitat for an exciting flora and fauna.

Visitors can access this new lake and its immediate surroundings from the public roads near the lake and the path that goes round the north side of the lake.

For those interested in history, ”MUSEUM SØNDERJYLLAND Historiecenter” is well worth a visit. You can experience the circumstances of one of the great military defeats of Danish history. As you drive along the coast of Als you can go right to the spot where the Prussians landed before they conquered large areas of Denmark. It’s still possible to see many of the ”war graves” – sites where soldiers fell in battle – dotted over the Als countryside.
